Hi, my name is Karissa. So happy to see you checking out my little slice of fun. I suppose you might wonder what makes me knowledgeable at all. Well, I started off my singing career early, but really became nuts about it in college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre, and loved every moment of it. I learned so much in my undergrad, including how to dance decently and to this day call myself a really good mover...
I continued my education with a Master's in Music. Here is where I learned the most about vocal pedagogy. It's definitely not a one size fits all type of thing, and I definitely won't treat you that way. Everyone deserves a tailored experience.
My second master's is in Teaching. I taught K-12 vocal and general music for 2 years, and then High School Vocal Music and Show Choir for 6 years.

Singing is so special. It is as individual as a fingerprint, and is as much a part of you as your eye color. I'd like to think that connecting with that part of yourself will make you understand yourself better. Especially if you are a newbie.
Also, you know that song Soul Sister, by Train? I walked down the aisle to a Vitamin String Quartet cover of that song, and my family has always called me sister. So, it just seemed to fit!
At my studio. Er... my house. This means you will likely deal with my 115 lb floof (I usually put him outside unless you want to meet him after our lesson), and also my kiddos. My husband as well, on occasion. I am located in the Burlington Street neighborhood in Mulvane, right off of Rock Rd, number 113. White two story house with a turquoise H on the side!
Why does anyone do what they do? It's really the simplest thing in the world. I love it, dude.
First and foremost, I am a mom to two wonderful babies. My big boy, who definitely keeps me on my toes. He loves monster trucks, swimming, and playing with his mom (that's me!) and dad (my husband). And our newest addition, my little girl. So far, she loves naps and bottles! I've been married for... oh no, don't put me on the spot! My husband is my biggest supporter and harshest critic, and is truly the one who pushed me to be where I am today. Thanks, hun!
Time with my family is most important, and they will always come first.
Also.... Outside is the best side. There is truly nothing like nature.
Lastly, I have a horse dog named Charlie. He is 115 lbs of floof and we love him.

I often get asked if I still perform. I do, actually! Not as much as I used to since I am busy being a mom and wife, plus teaching, but I still love to get a microphone in my hand. I practice what I preach, as well. Anything I ask you to try, I have done myself, and will most likely do it with you. It might be a little weird, and will definitely push you out of your comfort zone. But there is a method to the madness, and you will see a change as long as you commit and give it your all!
The saddest thing I heard teaching music to high school students in regards to singing, was this:
"I can't sing."
Excuse me, who told you that? Unless you are clinically tone deaf, honey, you can sing. We just have to find your style. Don't second guess, just do it. What do you have to lose? Give it few a tries, if it's not for you, no hurt feelings on my end. I am just happy I could be there for the adventure.
